Hi everyone! I have a little review and some swatches for you tonight. The subject matter is the 42 double stack matte shadow and blush palette. It's the same palette that Coastal Scents sells here, but I bought mine on eBay and paid about half their price (including shipping). It's the same palette, it just doesn't have the Coastal Scents 'brand' stamped on it. You can find these all over the place, seriously. Just search '42 double stack matte' on eBay and you'll find dozens of them. This was the first time I'd ordered something that would be shipping from Hong Kong, so naturally I was pretty nervous that my palette would arrive in one piece. I'm happy to say that it did. They wrapped it very well. So try not to let the fact that your palette might be coming from Hong Kong deter you from ordering one. :) I really wanted to try out matte shadows, and I think this was a perfect way to do so.
Let's see some pics first, shall we?
So there's both trays. They're quite pretty in the pans, aren't they? Do you see that blue shadow on the bottom row, second to last? I don't know what happened to it, it's like I got a dud in the palette and the pigment and binder didn't get mixed well for that particular shade or something. That shadow is very hard and you can see streaks of pure red peeking out underneath the blue. Odd! But that's pretty much the only dud in the palette. Well, there's also the fact that 2 purple colors are in the palette twice. :-/ Ah well. What can you expect for 12 dollars?
I'll show you the swatches and then we'll talk about the quality.
As you can see, most of this stuff is very pigmented. Some of the lighter shades are a bit difficult to get color from. I feel that the shadows are a bit chalky, but not crumbly. And really, aren't all mattes, by definition, chalky? I'm completely inexperienced with matte shadow, but every one I've tried has this same texture. Nonetheless, I've had no issues applying or blending the shadows to my lids. The colors come off very strong when I use my NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. (That's a perfect base for pastel and matte shadows, btw.) I really like this palette and I'm very glad I got it.
I love the blushes! They are crazy pigmented! You have to be a little careful with them and use a light hand. Or at least I do, with my pasty paleness, lol. I just don't have many blushes in my collection so these were a welcome addition. I've enjoyed using them, and sometimes I even mix two of them together to get a custom color. It's fun!
In conclusion, I'd recommend this palette to those of you with smaller collections who'd like to dabble in matte shadows. I think this is a perfect palette to get your feet wet with, and the blushes are an added bonus. It's very budget friendly if you buy on eBay. Those of your with bigger collections and many high end matte shadows can probably skip this palette. :)
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. Have a good night!
