I'm alive! FOTD

Hey anyone who might by some miracle still be following my blog! Yes, I'm alive! I still love makeup too. My excuse is we bought a house and moved in...a year ago. For a while I just wasn't feeling this blog thing. I'm not even really sure if I'm feeling it now, it's just I found my camera cable (shocker!) and still remembered how to edit pictures (kind of, one of them is a different width!), so...here we go!

This FOTD was the first time in a long time that I put on makeup without intent of going anywhere or anyone seeing it. It was just to play with some new things I got from a blog sale. (Aside: Martha is seriously the best blog seller ever, I feel like I win the lottery when I see a new blog sale from her.) I think the liner was the coolest thing I did. I used Makeup Geek Poison gel liner and layered a burgundy shadow on top of it and it looked so neat. Sadly, I've had Poison for some time and I think this is the first time I've ever used it. It seemed like it was starting to get a bit dry. :( I honestly don't know what I was thinking. I'll never use a red eyeliner and when I do I slap another color on it!

I'm not mad, I just have bitchy resting face. And I hate my teeth.

Product list:

Shiseido Beach Grass trio (purple in outer v, golden pink on lid, white in inner corner, same order on lower lashline)
Shiseido Floracouture trio (burgundy to deepen outer v)
Kat Von D Shade + Light eye palette (Laetus & Liberatus on the browbone, Ludwin in the crease)
Makeup Geek Poison gel liner
Shiseido Floracouture trio (burgundy packed over liner)
Physicians Formula Organic Wear mascara
Life's Entropy Brow Theory in Blonde on brows

Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm in Fair under the eye
Cover girl + Olay Concealer Balm in Fair/Light as a foundation stick all over face
Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Powder in Creamy Natural all over the face
Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Powder in Translucent Light as a highlighter
Mac Extra Dimension blush in Autoerotique

Nars Audacious lipstick in Anita

I have a lot to say but I don't want to make this very long. I kinda wish I made videos so I could just ramble, but I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to go on camera. I have pretty severe social anxiety. Anyway, thank you for reading and hope you're well!

Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Spotless Foundation RANT

This is not a review but a rant. I don't normally do this but this product has irked me in more ways than one and I've owned it less than 24 hours. It's bothering me beyond the point of forgetting it and I hope this rant will keep someone else from being bothered by it. I tend to not like posting negative views on products. It's more fun to talk about stuff you like, isn't it? But this...this deserves a ranting blog post.

This is a new foundation product by Physicians Formula. It retails for $14.95. I bought mine at CVS and I had good coupons so I ended up paying maybe $7.00 for it but I'm still pissed. The instant I saw it I was reminded of that Ardency Inn Americana Custom Coverage Concentrate that I've been dying to try. Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a drugstore version of that?? I mean, you know there will never be the same amount of shades, but still. It'd be cool. I had to try this stuff. Honestly, I immediately dismissed the crap claims of 'turns you 10 years younger' and 'removes your dark spots.' I just wanted to know how it performed as a foundation. A lightweight serum with great coverage would be very awesome.

 photo physiciansformulayouthfulwearspotless_zps1ec3b4a7.jpg
RANT #1: The friggin name! Why does Physicians Formula have to have entire paragraphs as product names? There's more on the box that could probably be considered part of the name but I got sick of typing it all in my post title! I know, this is a small gripe, but I had to mention it. I like products that have 2 or 3 word names. You say them and everyone knows what you're talking about. If you shorten the names of Physicians Formula products, you could be talking about one of 5 different things. It's annoying.

RANT #2: The brush is crap. Tiny and rough. Please to be not including crap applicators when that money could've gone into better product/packaging.

 photo physiciansformulayouthfulwearspotlessmess_zpsd4287923.jpg
RANT #3: The method of dispensing and the mess. The directions say to shake before using. I shook this thing 2 times and this is what it looks like. I didn't even want to show you the inside of the cap. With continued use this thing will become a disaster waiting to happen. Why did they decide on a stupid dropper instead of a dripper bottle like MAC Face & Body? The dropper and glass bottle is probably more expensive! Urgh.

 photo physiciansformulayouthfulwearspotlessswatch1_zps831baec5.jpg photo physiciansformulayouthfulwearspotlessswatch2_zps257785dd.jpg
RANT #4: The shade. There are only three shades. I bought the lightest one, of course, called Light. Keep in mind I'm not the fairest of fair skinned. I would estimate I'm about NC20-25ish in MAC shades. As soon as I swatched this product my face fell. It's freaking orange. The first picture is it swatched on my pale inner arm. The second picture is unblended product on my jawline. (Disregard the neck hair plz.) It's darker than it appears in the pictures even. You call this light?? No one lighter than Temptalia is going to be able to use this. WTF Physicians Formula. WTF.

So there you have it. Sorry for the bundle of negativity today, guys. I should've known better, I've been burned by Physicians Formula in the past.

State of the Skin, application techniques, and an FOTD

Hi guys! I've been having a really nice time makeup-wise lately, even though I haven't been sharing on the blog much. I've had fairly good skin in the last few months, which I think is largely due to me losing some weight and also taking Spironolactone. I've had so much trouble with acne in the past but that seems to be largely behind me now. It's so awesome! I still get the occasional zit during that time of the month. I will totally take that compared to what I used to have, which was at least 3 zits on my face on any given day. I still have hyperpigmenation and old acne scars, but they'll go away with time.

I also got and started using a Beauty Blender. I've held off on buying this for so long because, seriously, $20 for a sponge? I've tried a few cheap knock offs as well. The Cherry Culture 40% off sitewide sale came up a while back and I thought, what the heck. I might as well take advantage of the sale and get something I wouldn't normally pay full price for. Now that I've used the real thing, I totally know what all the fuss is about. I haven't touched my foundation brushes since I got the Beauty Blender. I have trouble with flaky skin making my foundation look weird, and I think brushes just kind of stir the flakies up. The Beauty Blender just presses them all down. It makes my foundation looks the best it's ever looked. I really don't want to ever go back to foundation brushes, which is disconcerting because I have a lot of them, LOL!

It's ironic that I've been lauding a sponge so much when the FOTD I'm going to show you didn't use the Beauty Blender at all, I just used my hands. I used a foundation that seems to work best with your hands, but I still love the way my skin looked throughout the day.

 photo IMG_8034_zps266ee9a2.jpg photo IMG_8036_zps01feb3ac.jpg photo IMG_8038_zpsc3e9e211.jpg

Products used:

Skin - Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer, L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder, Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm, Maybelline Fit Me concealer, Benefit Hoola bronzer, Jane Multi-Colored Cheek Powder in Peach Bouquet

Eyes - Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden, Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (Foxy, Tease, Chopper, Snakebite & Blackout), L'Oreal Lineur Intense liquid liner, L'Oreal Butterfly Mascara on top lashes, Cover Girl Clump Crusher Extensions on bottom lashes, NYX Brow Cake Powder in Blonde, ELF Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara

Lips - MAC Fleshpot lipstick topped with Flower Haute Honeysuckle.

Please know that I didn't edit my pics at all, I only cropped and added my blog watermark.

I also tried something different when I did my eye makeup this time. Normally I'm not extremely fond of liquid liner. I have a hard time using it without screwing up. I find that no matter what I do the liner always looks bumpy and uneven, probably because that's the way the skin on my eye is. I also can't wear liner all the way into my inner corner because my inner eye is so crepey it just runs into my fine lines and smears all over the place. Not a good look. So this time I decided to apply my liquid liner first, going all the way to the inner corner, and then apply my eyeshadow after. I also used Urban Decay Blackout to kind of clean up the bumpy and uneven spots in the liner. I really loved the way the liner looked so clean and polished! It looked much better than it usually does when I used liquid liner. The bad news is it still creased in my fine lines in the inner corner. :( So...back to the drawing board on that. I'd really like to be able to wear liner on my entire eye, not just the outer two-thirds of it. I'm thinking of trying cake liner next. Any ideas?

Thanks for reading my ramblings, guys! Have a good weekend.

FOTD: Sassy Minerals Ruthless

So...I reorganized this weekend, and I have this huge tub of loose eyeshadows. Okay, not huge. It's a plastic box the size of a shoebox. And it is overflowing with loose eyeshadows from various mineral companies, most of them never used. I feel like such a waste! I just vastly prefer pressed eyeshadows. Loose eyeshadows are so messy. Sometimes I think I'll just blogsale the entire lot. (Yeah, remember that blogsale I said I'd do back in January and then never did? Procrastinating is my game.) Then I thought, what if I pulled an eyeshadow out of the box every day and used a different one every day? So at least I'd be using them. Sort of. I DON'T KNOW. Sometimes I look at the pile of crap I have to sell and think "No one is gonna buy the crap you don't want. Taking pictures and making a blog sale would be an exercise in futility." It's funny how I can make big life decisions in a relatively short period of time, but small things like having enough crap to have a blogsale I can waffle on for months.

Why am I rambling? I DON'T KNOW. This morning I grabbed a loose eyeshadow out of the bin at random, it happened to be Sassy Minerals Ruthless, and here's my FOTD with it. (I just googled Sassy. Are they gone??? I can't find their website!)

Revlon Evening Opulence Fall Collection swatches

Hi! I came across the new Revlon collection at Walgreens yesterday and picked up a few pieces. I got the two lip butters, the eyeshadow palette and two of the lipglosses. I took some pictures to share with you.

Swatches of the lip products. From the bottom up: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters in Invite Only and Provocative, ColorBurst Lip Glosses in Bejeweled and Adorned. The Lip Butters look amazing in the tube, as you can see from above, but they are very sheer. Invite Only is basically clear with some iridescent shimmer and Provocative has a very subtle pink look to it, also with iridescent shimmer. They're not really necessary, but I think they look awesome and I have a sick obsession with Lip Butters, I must own them all. Bejeweled has little to no pigmentation and ends up just looking like a milky nude lip. If you have Revlon's Lilac Pastelle or Peach Petal, you likely don't need this. I wish it was more opaque, it looks like a cool greyish pink in the tube. Adorned is obviously the star of this group. It's a brilliant fuchsia with a flashy shimmer. I love it and I recommend it if you're only picking up one lip product from this collection.

 photo revlonmusephotoreadyswatches2_zpsc424faea.jpg photo revlonmusephotoreadyswatches1_zps3521a86a.jpg
This is the purple themed eyeshadow palette, Muse. This palette is partly a dud and partly awesome. The first two colors, the lilac and dusty plum are a little meh. I had to pile on the lilac to get it to show, and the plum was pigmented but rather patchy and I'm guessing it would get muddy and dirty on the eye pretty quickly. The middle purple is beautiful! The glitter doesn't really show up in the swatch but I didn't really expect it to. The last two shades are absolutely gorgeous. The lightest color in the palette is a beautiful opalescent glittery blue. I tried my hardest to capture this color in my swatches but really I couldn't do it justice. The last shade is a glittery dark teal and it is really quite awesome.

Thanks for looking everyone, and hope you found this helpful!

Maybelline Limited Edition Colored Mascaras (swatches on lashes)

 photo maybellinelecoloredmascaras2013_zps08e04cdf.jpg

Hey guys! I've had a bit of a blogging break, as you could probably tell. I wish I could get myself on a better schedule than this, but alas... Anyway, I'm back with some swatches of the 2013 limited edition colored Maybelline mascaras! Hope you like!

 photo maybellinelecoloredmascaraswatches_zps4a8044f5.jpg

Straight out of the tube, those colors look very promising, don't they? From left to right: Wink of Pink, So Very Berry, Vision in Violet, I See Blue, Teal Appeal, and Green With Envy. *sigh* Isn't that last name getting a little old, guys? I swear there's 2 products in every brand with that name, or at least something about green and envy. Can we just retire it? Names aside, let's see how they look on the lashes. I swatched all of these on top of a white mascara base on the top lashes for maximum color impact. My lower lashes are the mascara only, no base.

 photo maybellinewinkofpinkonlashes_zps2a85d4b2.jpg
Color me surprised! I expected the pink mascara to be the weakest of the bunch, but it's actually one of the strongest. I really like it!

 photo maybellinesoveryberry_zpsb1c2e038.jpg
I was excited about this one, but it turns out to look just maroon at best and plain brown at worst. It's a cool effect, but not really what I was wanting. I wanted more red.

 photo maybellinevisioninviolet_zps4ad120fd.jpg
Womp womp womp. This was the worst of the bunch. You can barely see any purple, it just looks like a faded black. Drat.

 photo maybellineiseeblue_zps530720ca.jpg
This one is electric! Its color payoff is every bit as good as the pink. Awesome!

 photo maybellinetealappeal_zpsd3163207.jpg
I had high hopes for this one, as it's a beautiful color. It does look pretty cool up close, but from far away you can't really tell. I wore this on top of a blackened teal & seafoam green eye yesterday, and you couldn't see the teal mascara at all.

 photo maybellinegreenwithenvy_zps2d7eddbb.jpg
This is an interesting kelly green, but the color comes out looking pretty drab and faded. Another miss.

My recommendations are Wink of Pink, I See Blue, and maybe Teal Appeal. That is, if you even like colored mascara in the first place. I was thinking maybe I could put these in my daughter's hair if I just wanted to use them for something. Would that make too much of a mess, you think? ;)

Stila Eyeshadow Collection & Swatches

All products in this post were paid for by me.

This all started because I really wanted MAC Smoke & Diamonds eyeshadow, but the only way I could get it in a way that didn't kill my wallet was to buy a decent dupe, which is Stila Diamond Lil eyeshadow. I bought it on eBay, and because of my sickness in which I don't like anything to be alone, and I like consistency in my freeform palettes, I uh...acquired 29 more. >.>

Please note that I didn't buy any of these eyeshadows at full price. Most of these I got on All Cosmetics Wholesale. I also bought several on eBay. Most of them I paid under $10.00, and I think the highest price I paid was around $15.00ish. Since these retail for $18.00, I think that's pretty good.

Anyway, I have 30 Stila single eyeshadows in 2 Z-palettes to show you today, and I really like them. There are a couple of duds, which I'll note below. Here we go!

  • Chinois - This is a matte pale beige that's got a slightly greyed, eggshell feel to it. A very nice browbone highlight. Quite pigmented, looks a bit chalky in the swatch, but works great none the less.
  • Prize - A very glittery light gold. Very powdery and kicks up a lot of dust when you put a brush to it. Lots of fall out as well, but it's a pretty color.
  • Heather - Light shimmery pink.
  • Cloud - Similar to Heather in lightness of the shade, only it's more greyed & neutral.
  • Wheat - A nice light champagny gold. This one's very pretty.

 photo stilaeyeshadowswatches2_zpsaa84f2d1.jpg
  • Launey - A light satiny peach with lots of very fine gold glitter.
  • Oasis - Perfect champagny light peach.
  • Dune - It's hard to see, it's almost the exact same color as the skin on my arm. A matte skintone shade. It's pigmented and would be a great all over lid color or a base to blend other colors against.
  • Eden - Similar to Dune in lightness, it's just mauvey. A nice blender color.
  • Kamet - This one was a dud for me. It looks like a light grey in the pan, almost like MAC's Copperplate, but the texture was extremely dry & hard. I had to scrape product out of the pan with a small spatula to get this swatch. Bummer.

 photo stilaeyeshadowswatches3_zps42e54a46.jpg
  • Sun - A champagne sparkle color with some fine glitter. It's similar to Oasis only Oasis is gold & Sun is peachy.
  • Sparkle - A somewhat subdued gold. I like this one a lot.
  • Champara - Nice light brown matter color.
  • Chinchina - Very similar to Champara only more reddish.
  • Viola - A lovely mauvey shimmer.

 photo stilaeyeshadowswatches4_zps22594008.jpg
  • Shore - An interesting lilac silver with quite a bit of glitter. It's a bit darker than it appears here. Really nice color.
  • Jezebel - Peach shimmer.
  • Tolima - Another matte brown. Darker than Champara & Chinchina.
  • Tone - A matte dusty purplish shade. This one didn't swatch very well, there's not much pigmentation going on. It looks much darker in the pan than it swatches.
  • Pigalle - A cranberry shimmer. This one had medium pigmentation.

 photo stilaeyeshadowswatches5_zpsbf55834b.jpg
  • Grace - A lovely taupey shimmer. Seems a bit more cool toned in real life than it is here.
  • Ray - Orange shimmer.
  • Kalahoo - Nicely pigmented matte gray, leans purple. I'd recommend Kalahoo over Tone.
  • Poise - A pretty plum shimmer in the pan, but a pain to swatch. Very patchy.
  • Illimani - Gorgeous matte red-brown. Great pigmentation.

 photo stilaeyeshadowswatches6_zps00001dc5.jpg
  • Golightly - I think this is a popular color, and it's easy to see why. It's a beautiful bronze shimmer.
  • La Douce - A rather murky olive shimmer.
  • Diamond Lil - My absolute favorite of all of them. It's so complex. There's grey, there's taupe, there's gold. You need this one.
  • Twig - A nice reddened brown shimmer.
  • Indigo - A matte navy, somewhat patchy, but not the worst by any means.
So what do you think? Do you have any single Stila eyeshadows?

Have a good weekend!
